Intimate Christmas – From Alpine Magic to Southern Lights is more than a winter journey.
It is a deeply personal experience, shaped by Mauro Riva’s own story.
Born and raised in the Dolomites, with family roots in Puglia, Mauro has always lived between two worlds: the snowy silence of the mountains and the warm light of Southern villages.
Christmas is the moment when these two souls of Italy reveal their beauty most clearly and also the season he feels most connected to.
This journey brings them together.
From Alpine cathedrals glowing under winter skies to white-stone villages wrapped in golden lights, Intimate Christmas is a slow, immersive exploration of Italy’s most atmospheric winter towns, guided by someone who truly belongs to both regions.
Led personally by Mauro, this experience blends local knowledge, cultural storytelling, seasonal traditions, and heartfelt hospitality into a warm, meaningful, and unforgettable holiday journey.
It is a celebration of light, craftsmanship, food, community, and shared moments, experienced at the most intimate time of the year.

Mauro Riva, Travel Designer & Local Guide
Mauro is a travel professional and experiential journey designer, born and raised in the heart of the Dolomites, where winter traditions, mountain life, and seasonal rhythms shaped his early years. Growing up surrounded by snow-covered peaks and historic Alpine towns, he developed a deep appreciation for slow travel, local culture, and the quiet beauty of winter landscapes. With strong family roots in Puglia, Mauro also shares an authentic connection to Southern Italy’s villages and festive traditions. His greatest passion lies in creating meaningful journeys that connect people to place, community, and seasonal heritage, transforming every experience into a source of inspiration, warmth, and lasting memories.
Surrounded by alpine peaks and centuries-old architecture, Bressanone transforms into a winter fairytale during Christmas. Its cathedral square glows with festive lights, wooden chalets fill the air with the scent of spices and pastries, and evening light shows bring history and tradition to life. Here, we slow down, settle into the rhythm of mountain life, and begin our journey immersed in authentic Alpine warmth, craftsmanship, and timeless holiday atmosphere.
In Bressanone, we stay at the historic Hotel Elephant, a family-run residence that has welcomed travelers, artists, and musicians for over five centuries. Once a resting place for merchants and nobles crossing the Alps, it has preserved its timeless character through generations. Its warm interiors, traditional Stube, and central location make it a true home in the heart of the old town. Here, history, hospitality, and alpine charm come together to frame our winter experience.
From Bressanone, we travel north by train to Vipiteno, one of the most charming medieval towns in the Alps. Framed by snow-dusted peaks, its pastel façades and arcaded streets create an intimate, storybook atmosphere. During Christmas, the historic main square fills with wooden stalls offering hand-carved ornaments, alpine crafts, spiced wine, and traditional sweets. We’ll also climb the iconic Zwölferturm, the 12th-century tower that rises above the town, for a breathtaking view over the rooftops and the glowing market below, where the lights, the mountains, and the rhythm of village life come together in a truly magical winter scene. In the evening, we return to Bressanone, our alpine home for the journey, carrying these quiet winter images with us.
After a relaxed morning in Bressanone, we travel by train to Bolzano, the cultural capital of South Tyrol.
We depart early for Verona Airport and fly south to Bari, crossing Italy from mountains to sea.
After landing, a private transfer brings us into the heart of Puglia, through endless olive groves and white-stone landscapes shaped by centuries of rural life. We arrive in Locorotondo, one of Italy’s most beautiful villages, famous for its historic Christmas illuminations that transform balconies, stairways, and hidden courtyards into glowing ribbons of light. Every winter, the old town becomes an open-air stage of warmth and color, where handcrafted decorations, floral displays, and soft golden lights create an atmosphere that feels both festive and intimate, a true Southern interpretation of Christmas magic.
Nestled within the white-washed lanes of Locorotondo’s historic center, Bella Itria Boutique Hotel & Resort offers a blend of timeless charm and contemporary comfort. Housed in beautifully restored historic buildings, the hotel’s elegant rooms and common spaces reflect Puglia’s architectural heritage, with exposed stone, soft neutral tones, and bespoke details that echo the spirit of the region. From the rooftop terrace you’ll enjoy sweeping views of the town’s tangle of alleys and the surrounding Itria Valley, especially magical at dusk when the Christmas lights begin to glow. Here, every corner feels like a quiet retreat after a day of exploring, warm, welcoming, and distinctly Apulian.
Our final full day takes us to Ostuni, the White City overlooking the Adriatic Sea, where winter light and Christmas decorations enhance the natural beauty of its whitewashed walls. During the holiday season, stairways, arches, and panoramic terraces are softly illuminated, creating glowing viewpoints and intimate festive scenes. As we walk through historic quarters, artisan shops, and small churches decorated for Christmas, the town reveals a quieter, more reflective side. Free time allows everyone to wander, photograph, and absorb the gentle rhythm of Southern Italy’s winter traditions.
Our farewell dinner takes place in the heart of Locorotondo, surrounded by softly glowing lights and quiet stone alleys. Around the table, we celebrate not only the flavors of Southern Italy, but also the friendships, stories, and moments we’ve shared along the journey. It is a warm, heartfelt evening, filled with laughter, memories, and gratitude, where the experience comes full circle and the spirit of Intimate Christmas truly lives on.
After breakfast, we transfer to Bari Airport, where our official journey together comes to an end. From here, guests are free to continue their travels independently, using Italy’s efficient high-speed trains to reach Rome, Milan, and Venice, or regional and domestic flights to other destinations. A direct flight from Bari to Venice is the most time-efficient option for those returning north, but everyone is welcome to choose the route that best fits their personal plans. While our program concludes in Bari, the memories, connections, and spirit of Intimate Christmas continue well beyond the final goodbye.
