We have just returned from our third trip with Drake and the Italy Workshops team. This trip was to Sicily, but we also traveled with him to Puglia, last year, and Tuscany, two years ago. Drake is renowned for his photography, but is also an excellent, encouraging teacher who meets people where they are in their photography skill and interest. He creates unique occasions to meet and mix with local people, engaging in ways that always result in interesting portraits. Gabriele and Mauro are outstanding as well, and they share special insights into Italian culture as well as being exceptional photographers themselves. If you have a sense of adventure and want to get off the beaten path to see beautiful places and have a more personal connection with and understanding of Italy, while improving your photography, you have found the perfect fit. The spring Tuscany 2026 workshop was my 6th workshop with Italy Workshops. While there are many beautiful places to do travel photography, Italy is one of my favorites. I cannot speak highly enough of the experiences with Drake, Sean Gabriele, and Mauro over the years. I really enjoy their thoughtful itineraries which provide a wonderful balance between sunrise and sunset shoots, class time, and free time. They are flexible in chasing beautiful light and provide , detailed history about the areas that we visit. Drake has carefully cultivated friendships over the last 20 years in Italy so much so that it feels like family. Experience of a lifetime! Perfectly planned itinerary that checked all the boxes. Time spent in the Masseria Aprile was definitely the highlight of the trip, as the accommodations, food, and atmosphere were truly special. I very much enjoyed free time to explore and discover, as well as participate in group tours that were extremely informative as well as receive hands on instruction and review of my photo skills. Couldn't be more pleased and will definitely be back!

I love Italy and keep coming back to ItalyWorkshops because they are a perfect match for my ideal travel style. The locations are photogenic, culturally rich and authentically Italian. The small group size means you get to know people well who share a common interest. There is enough flexibility that I can attend the technical workshops or have extra time to find the perfect shot. All the guides and instructors have been knowledgeable, supportive and gracious.

We had a great time on our Sicily trip! Drake, Gabrielle and the whole team were very attentive and supportive throughout our journey. We are not skilled or passionate photographers. We joined the trip to experience eastern/southern Sicily and to spend time with our long time friends who were on the trip and in fact have attended a number of Italy workshops. However, from the instructions and tips provided by Drake and other members of the trip, we have become better photographers! We would highly recommend Italy Workshops!
